MIGRAINE

What are Migraine?

Migraine are a type of severe headache often accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. They can last from a few hours to several days and can significantly interfere with daily activities. Migraines are typically characterized by intense, throbbing pain, usually on one side of the head.

Causes of Migraine

Genetics: A family history of migraine can increase susceptibility.
Hormonal Changes: Fluctuations in hormones, particularly in women during menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause, can trigger migraine.
Environmental Triggers: Factors such as bright lights, strong odors, loud noises, or changes in weather can precipitate a migraine.
Dietary Factors: Certain foods and beverages, including aged cheeses, alcohol, and caffeine, can trigger migraine in some individuals.
Stress and Fatigue: Emotional stress, anxiety, or lack of sleep can contribute to the onset of migraine.
Neurological Factors: Changes in brain activity and neurotransmitter imbalances may play a role in migraine development.

Symptoms of Migraine

Throbbing Headache: Intense, pulsating pain, often on one side of the head.
Nausea and Vomiting: Many individuals experience gastrointestinal symptoms during a migraine attack.
Sensitivity to Light and Sound: Increased sensitivity to environmental stimuli can occur.
Visual Disturbances: Some may experience aura symptoms such as flashing lights or blind spots before the headache starts.
Fatigue: A feeling of tiredness or exhaustion often follows a migraine attack.

Migraine can be debilitating, affecting work, social activities, and overall quality of life. Treatment options include lifestyle modifications, medications for acute attacks, and preventive strategies to reduce the frequency and severity of migraines.
